Aldi has announced the installation of InPost parcel lockers in more than half of its UK stores, with plans to expand the service to over 600 locations by the end of the year.
The discounter currently provides InPost lockers at 536 stores across England, Scotland, and Wales, enabling customers to collect and return online orders during their regular shop. Through its partnership with InPost, Aldi aims to enhance convenience and efficiency for shoppers by integrating parcel collection and returns into the weekly grocery experience.
Jonathan Neale, managing director of national real estate at Aldi UK, said: “Convenience and efficiency is important to our shoppers, which is why we’re continuing to roll out InPost lockers to as many of our stores as possible. It has always been our aim to save our customers time as well as money, so making it easy for people to pick up or return parcels while getting the weekly shop done has been really valuable.”
Locker-based delivery and returns are gaining traction in the UK, with over 115 million retail parcels delivered or returned through lockers in the past 12 months, according to research from InPost and Retail Economics released in August. The study, based on a nationally representative survey of 2,000 households and parcel volume data, estimated 87 million outbound deliveries were made via parcel lockers—accounting for seven per cent of all online orders. A further 28 million returns, or 12 per cent of all online returns, were processed through lockers.
The report also found that two in five UK adults—approximately 21 million people—have used a parcel locker in the past year, whether to collect, return, or send a parcel. Industry analysts cite convenience, extended access hours, and reduced queue times as key drivers of the growing popularity of locker solutions, particularly as e-commerce volumes continue to rise.
Aldi’s ongoing expansion of its InPost locker network reflects a broader shift among UK retailers to integrate click-and-collect and returns services within physical stores, aiming to meet evolving consumer expectations for speed and flexibility.
