Aldi is set to open ten new stores over the next 14 weeks as part of its ambitious expansion plans, whilst a further 30 existing stores will undergo refurbishment to enhance the customer experience.
The UK's fourth-largest supermarket, which now operates more than 1,050 stores nationwide, will launch new locations in areas including Oldbury in the West Midlands, Fulham Broadway in London, and Brighouse in West Yorkshire. Additional openings are planned for Caterham in Surrey and Deeside in Wales.
The German discount retailer will also refresh existing stores in locations such as Herne Bay in Kent and Ancoats in Manchester as part of its ongoing investment programme.
These openings form part of Aldi's long-term target to reach 1,500 UK stores, bringing low-price groceries to more shoppers nationwide. The supermarket is investing £650 million in expanding its footprint this year alone.
Each new store opening is expected to create approximately 40 new jobs with what the company describes as market-leading pay rates, boosting employment opportunities in local communities.
Jonathan Neale, managing director of national real estate at Aldi UK, said: "At Aldi, our goal is to ensure everyone has access to high-quality food at unbeatable prices, and we're committed to achieving that with our ambitious store opening plans."
He added: "We're targeting 40 new store openings in 2025, while many of our current stores will also be getting a refresh to enhance the customer experience, meaning we can consistently offer the best value for money to even more shoppers across the UK."
The expansion comes as Aldi maintains its position as what it claims is Britain's best-paying supermarket. Store assistants received a pay increase earlier this year, with hourly rates rising to at least £12.75 nationally and £14.05 within the M25 area.
The retailer has committed to further pay increases for store colleagues from September 2025, taking minimum rates to £12.85 per hour nationally and £14.16 per hour for those working within the M25. Aldi is also the only supermarket to offer all colleagues paid breaks, worth approximately £1,370 annually for the average store colleague.
Other new store locations planned include Sheffield in South Yorkshire, Diss in Norfolk, Hilton in Derbyshire, West Denton in Newcastle, and Market Harborough in Leicestershire.
Stores earmarked for refurbishment include locations in Melton Mowbray, Aigburth in Liverpool, Tunstall in Stoke-on-Trent, Southampton, and various sites across Scotland including Ayr, Inverness, and Cowdenbeath.
