Aldi has announced a £900 million investment in its stores and distribution centres over 2027, alongside new measures it said would keep its products affordable.
The supermarket said the money will help fund the opening of 40 new stores across the UK in 2027 as well as continued upgrades to its distribution network.
It added that over the next ten weeks, it will open 30 new stores in locations including Dumbarton, London, Newport and Willesden.
Aldi currently operates 1,092 stores across the UK and has a long-term target to raise this number to 1,500. The supermarket, which is the UK’s cheapest according to the consumer choice group Which?, has previously said it aims to expand its estate to give customers better access to affordable goods.
Ahead of the festive season, Aldi said it will cut prices across its food range, adding it has spent £340 million throughout 2026 so far to keep prices low on products such as butter and meat.
Giles Hurley, chief executive at Aldi UK and Ireland, said: “The cost of food remains one of the biggest pressures on households across the country. Recent droughts at home and events overseas have highlighted just how fragile our food system is and why food security must be a long-term national priority.
“We’re working hard to make good food more affordable for every family – cutting prices on everyday essentials, signing long-term supplier agreements to help increase home-grown production, and continuing to bring affordable groceries to even more communities through our store opening programme.”
In June, Aldi committed £370 million across 2026 to open 16 new stores. At the start of September, it added to this with plans to open a new store each week of the month.
