Asda has upgraded its ToYou e-commerce pick-up and drop-off service with new features, including a new website and automated parcel robots.
Launched in 2015, the system lets online shoppers choose their local Asda store as a delivery and returns location when purchasing with 115 third-party retailers, including Missguided, ASOS, Feelunique, Gymshark and PrettyLittleThing.
A statement from the supermarket chain explained that it has introduced changing rooms in around 300 stores to let customers try on their fashion purchases before taking them home – and return them immediately via ToYou.
Paul Anastasiou, senior director of parcel service at Asda, explained: “We will introduce more automation in our stores including additional parcel robots for parcel pick-up, and we are very excited about our new returns drop box with integrated label printing capability for parcel drop-off, which we are rolling out.”
The move forms part of what the company said would be “another significant year in technology and innovation” for ToYou, in response to growing competition from tech-led rivals like Ocado.
As if to demonstrate that point, the annual Which? supermarket satisfaction survey, taking in responses from its 14,000 members, found Ocado to be the best for online shopping, with Asda still rooted to the bottom of the table.
Last month, Asda became the first UK supermarket to launch one-hour Click and Collect service, with a national roll-out following successful trials.
