A China Singles Day to remember

Worldpay has lifted the lid on China Singles Day spending for e-commerce websites in the country. It saw a 455 per increase in spending from 4 November to 11 November. The peak shopping time was midnight in local China time (CST). Worldpay data shows there were 3,057,018 total transactions; 127,376 per hour, 2,123 transactions per minute. Consumers made 5.3 purchases on average, spending £95 per person.

“China Singles Day continues to grow in popularity as other retailers, alongside Alibaba, have begun to offer similar discounts on a variety of products and services, from electronics to holidays,” says Tang Kok San, VP business development China at Worldpay. “With smartphone penetration increasing in China, shopping on the go has become easier, driving even more sales for retailers on 11/11. And with the Chinese Government continuing to back the day sales will only continue to increase.”
