Walmart rolls out mobile Store Assistant feature

Walmart has released a variety of new mobile app tools as part of its new Store Assistant feature, designed to completely reimagine the in-store shopping experience for customers

Store Assistant provides customers with a host of features, including Walmart Pay and an enhanced product search and scanner – enabling customers to read reviews, find items in-store and double check prices.

A new shopping list-building feature has been added, with the ability to check item stock at local stores before leaving your house. The total cart will be calculated as you compile the list, enabling the customer to see the cost of their basket before stepping in-store. Store Assistant will also direct you to the aisle the items are located in, with the ability to cross off items as you go.

The app will have a map unique to each of Walmart’s 4,700 stores, helping customers to locate items down to the aisle and shelf. This feature is currently available to a handful of stores, with the rest to follow in the coming months.

A statement from Walmart said: “Smartphones have become a vital part of our lives, helping to make virtually everything faster and more convenient. No matter what we’re doing these days, relying on our favourite apps is almost second nature.

“That’s why we’ve been applying this kind of thinking to shopping, by building tools and features within the Walmart app to save you time on everything from prescription pickups to merchandise returns. But we also know that we can do even more. This week, we’re releasing a handful of new and improved features to the Walmart app that not only help you get in and out of the store quickly, but also help you before you ever leave the house.”
