Tesco trials 3D augmented reality

Tesco is trialling augmented reality both in-store and online. The scheme lets shoppers see a 3D image of a product on screen, such as a TV set, by holding up a Tesco Direct catalogue or product key, to a web camera.

Tesco is testing the service in eight stores following a successful online version of the service with over 40 products. The trial, which is being conducted with UK software firm Kishino, is aimed at saving on shelf-space by having less electronic items in-stpre.

The retailer trialled the service online in September and claimed it helped reduce the number of returns as users were able to see the actual size of a product before ordering.
