Foursquare will open a London office by the end of the year and has appointed ex-Google employee Omid Ashtari as director of business development. He is the company’s first UK employee, but is currently based in the US.
“Foursquare is already extremely popular in Europe and I hope to continue expanding our footprint in the region by securing partnerships that are unique and groundbreaking,” he says.
Foursquare are researching possible locations in London, including offices in east London, near Silicon Roundabout, and in the West End.
The service had 1.5 million users a year ago and recently announced that its global user base has topped the 10 million mark. Brands including Gap, Jimmy Choo and Ministry of Sound have experimented with the service to boost their customers’ brand loyalty.
