Tesco was the most ‘liked’ retailer on Facebook this summer, attracting an extra 90,000 fans since June, according to the latest UK Facebook Commerce Index results. Online fashion retailer, ASOS, was a close second, picking up close to another 82,000 fans, results launched by ChannelAdvisor said.

This growth has seen Tesco and ASOS occupy positions four and 11 in the overall top 25 list. ASOS’ growth could be down to their new ‘page within a page’ Facebook format, Instagram, says ChannelAdvisor.

Other significant movers include baby products retailer Kiddicare, which surged to the top of the percentage growth table with 163 per cent growth in fans, River Island passed the coveted one million fans mark, and both John Lewis and Dorothy Perkins increased their fan base by 51 per cent and 57 per cent respectively.

Simon Besley, ChannelAdvisor Key Account Manager, says: “Not only is the total fan count up by six per cent on June’s figure, but we continue to see both Tesco and ASOS’ inexorable surge up the rankings – the former topping our growth list (with 89,956 extra fans since June), the latter with another 81,831 fans.

“ASOS’ rise and rise has no doubt also boosted by its sales figures – not only have sales soared by an impressive 69 per cent, but over half of those sales come from outside the UK, a surefire way of building that fan base.

“Meanwhile, Tesco’s continued drive to ‘own’ the customer is apparent in their multi-faceted fan page. Competitions again dominate, but Clubcard holders are also encouraged to engage, and there’s a recipe page and an ‘offers’ page.”
