Amazon ‘eyes UK online car sales market’

Amazon is set to move into online car sales in the UK, with the retail giant eyeing up partnerships with vehicle manufacturers to offer promotions to customers.

This is according to the Press Association, which reported that Amazon already has similar deals in France and Italy with Seat and Fiat respectively.

Amazon has also reportedly begun hiring senior executives from across the automotive industry, with Christoph Moeller, a partner in charge of automotive industry operations at the Oliver Wyman management consultancy, already hired.

Moeller told German magazine Automobilwoche that the company is already recruiting car sales executives and that Amazon plans to run the business out of Luxembourg and is looking at Britain as its probable pilot market.

Commenting on the news, ParcelHero’s head of consumer research, David Jink, said: “From books to consumer electronics, Amazon has completely transformed the market wherever and whatever it has launched. Now the likes of Evans Halshaw and Bristol Street Motors will be taking a deep breath as it accelerates into the world of car sales.”
