M-commerce sales explode on eBay

Mobile shopping now accounts for 10 per cent of eBay’s UK sales, with an item sold every second via smartphone globally. The online auction and marketplace platform has even increased its mobile revenue forecast for 2011 to £3.2billion after m-commerce sales hit £1.9 billion in the past quarter.

The e-commerce giant had formerly predicted that mobile sales for 2011 would be $2.5 billion.

Angus McCarey, eBay’s retail director for UK, said it is seeing triple-digit mobile sales growth and that mobile was blurring the line between online and offline sales.

“Retailers need to think about how to meet the demands of the connected consumer, who will soon expect a truly integrated shopping experience that flows from their phone, to the shop and to their Facebook profile,” he says.
