Waitrose moves into fashion

Waitrose has announced that they will move into fashion for the first time. The retailer will launch a new store format comprising food, home and fashion at a flagship store in London’s Canary Wharf in September.

The store is currently a Food and Home store.

It will be the first time Waitrose has explicitly launched a fashion offer, however the grocer could not confirm whether its range would be a tie up with its sister retailer department store John Lewis, or new lines created for Waitrose.

The John Lewis Partnership which runs both Waitrose and the department store chain currently offers Waitrose food courts in a number of its larger stores such as the White City. Rival supermarkets, Asda, Tesco, Morrisons and Sainsbury’s are all increasing their non-food ranges to grow sales and margins.
