PayPal used their speaking slot at the E-commerce Expo to announce that they would take on Google in mobile payments. "I know they are a formidable company," said Renier Lemmens, VP and general manager for Europe, the Middle East and Africa. "But I say game on."

They also divulged that PayPal will be moving offline and in-store in the UK next year.

"The line between offline and online is blurring," said Lemmens. "Consumers are pretty much online all the time. When you use a PoS, you connect to online, And even though PayPal is online, we don't think of ourselves like that anymore. We are everywhere."

"We can help retailers, those without loyalty schemes, to identify who their customers are at the point of sale," he continued. "Consumers want multiple ways to pay, NFC is just another way to pay, and I don't even think it's the most exciting. No doubt we will be at the PoS in a visible way in 2012. We see a completely seamless experience between online and offline. That's what we are bringing to market. We will have NFC as part of our solution in the UK."

They also announced that their incredible popular app payment solution, launched in conjunction with PizzaExpress in June, will be available for Android devices in November this year.
