IKEA increases cash-handling security

IKEA is the world’s first retail customer to use Wincor Nixdorf’s new CINEO solution to automate cash handling at its stores. Following successful piloting in France and Germany, the solution is already installed in more than 40 stores in 10 countries.

The new solution enables cash to be automatically verified at the end of a shift and stored in an audit-proof manner in the CINEO systems’ storage media. At the start of a shift authorised employees are assigned precisely defined quantities of notes and coins.

The cash is stored in intelligent cassettes which can also be used by cash-in-transit operators to take it away. The new solution increases security and ensures significant time savings by eliminating the cost and effort involved in handling cash.

Wincor Nixdorf's solution consists of consulting, hardware, software and services. In addition, IKEA is to migrate its PoS software worldwide to Wincor Nixdorf’s TP application suite.

Following installation in Canada and Great Britain, it plans to replace its existing software by TP application suite successively by 2013.
