Google launches loyalty scheme for Wallet

Google has teamed up with several retailers in the US to extend the capabilities of its mobile wallet by offering coupon redemption and loyalty schemes. Wallet users can now earn reward points and redeem offers with participating stores at the point of sale by tapping their NFC enabled phones.

The service is called Google Wallet SingleTap Experience and is available at American Eagle Outfitters, The Container Store, Foot Locker, Guess, Jamba Juice, Macy’s, OfficeMax and Toys ‘R’ Us.

Google has updated the offers tab in its wallet, which includes a new featured offers section, where customers can access exclusive discounts. And Foot Locker, Guess, OfficeMax and American Eagle Outfitters have announced they are making loyalty cards available via Google Wallet.

The developments were announced on Google’s official commerce blog by Spencer Spinnell, the company’s director, emerging markets. “It’s still early days for Google Wallet, but this is an important step in expanding the ecosystem of participating merchants to make shopping faster and easier in more places,” he wrote.
