Amazon to revamp website for tablets

Amazon.com is set to overhaul its website as it prepares to rival Apple's iPad with a new tablet device priced at $250. The redesign is expected to make the world’s biggest online retail site easier to use and navigate on a tablet computer.

The new Amazon home page is less cluttered than the old one, but is currently only available to a few users. There will be fewer buttons, more white space and a bigger search box, with the emphasis being on Amazon's digital goods, rather than their physical ones.

According to reports, Amazon is expected to introduce a tablet computer in coming weeks.

The device is said to have a back-lit, seven inch screen, smaller than the iPad's, and about the same as Research in Motion's PlayBook.
