Ocado reveals UK shopping habits during retail reopening

Ocado has revealed the shopping habits of the nation following the easing of restrictions and the long-awaited reopening of non-essential retail stores.

According to the online grocery store, Brits have been buying in-garden entertainment and picnic items.

It found that in the past month, searches for canapes had increased by 142 per cent, 96 per cent for nibbles, and 337 per cent for Pimms.

In the past week, Ocado saw a surge in demand for easy to prepare foods like stir frys, pasta, soups, ready meals, and breakfast bars. While microwavable rice received an extra 6,000 search views.

Particularly popular items included Alpen Light Jaffa Cake Cereal Bars and Dell Ugo Tomato & Mozzarella Tortelloni.

“With lockdown lifting this week, there have been loud and clear shifts in the popularity of certain products - our customers are understandably enjoying new found freedoms,” said Laura Harricks, chief customer officer, Ocado Retail.
