Luxury shoppers seeking out conscious products, says Farfetch

Luxury shoppers are actively searching for conscious and sustainable products, according to a new report by fashion retailer Farfetch.

The company found that there is an increasing global demand for conscious products, which have a 10 per cent higher conversion rate in the company’s marketplace. Searches for conscious items in the Farfetch marketplace increased by 78 per cent in 2022 compared with the previous year.

Pre-owned clothing is another trend that the report highlighted, with around 35 per cent of customers purchasing a pre-owned or vintage item in 2022 compared with 20 per cent in 2021.

Shoppers are also looking for products made from certain materials, with the terms “linen”, “vegan” and “organic” proving popular search terms on the Farfetch website.

“This year’s Conscious Luxury Trends Report showcases the remarkable progress being made in this space across the industry, and the significant opportunities for brands to align with consumer values and help to deliver positive social and environmental progress,” said Thomas Berry, senior director of sustainable business at Farfetch. “By embracing sustainability as a strategic imperative, brands can not only meet the growing demand for Conscious products and circular services, but also shape a more sustainable and inclusive future for the luxury industry.”
