JD Sports completes £50m sale of UK fashion brands

JD Sports has formerly completed the sale of five ‘non-core’ UK fashion brands to Frasers Group, as part of a deal worth nearly £50 million.

The brands include Tessuti, Scotts, Choice, Giulio, and Cricket, which will join eight brands which were immediately transferred to Frasers Group when the deal was first announced last year.

The £47.5 million buyout saw Base Childrenswear, Clothingsites (including Brown Bag Clothing), Kids Cavern, Missy Empire, Nicholas Deakins, Pretty Green, Prevu Studio and Watch Shop transferred to the retail group in December 2022.

JD Sports said that it had withdrawn Rascal Clothing from the transaction after one of the founders exercised a pre-emption right which was agreed when JD Sports bought the brand in 2019, with the divestment of the clothing company taking place on 6 February.

JD Sports said it expects to complete the divestment of Topgrade Sportswear “in due course”.

JD Sports says that the divestment of the collection of brands will allow the group to focus more fully on the opportunities across the rest of the group, in particular the international and digital expansion of the group’s core premium sports fashion fascias.
