Instagram adds three new shopping features

Instagram has announced three new ways to discover products, shop from followed brands and keep track of all product inspiration in one place.

A statement from the Facebook-owned photographic social media company explained that users can now save items for later in their ‘Shopping Collection’, to help create wish-lists within the app.

Instagram is also testing a redesign of the Shop tab on business profiles so users can quickly view all the products featured in their shopping posts. When visiting a business profile, people can now tap on the ‘Shop’ button to see their products, such as the item name, price, and the post featuring the item.

Finally, users can now shop in videos from their favorite brands, just by tapping the shopping icon in the bottom left corner to reveal the featured products and learn more about them.

The changes follow the expansion of shopping features in September, with the introduction of product stickers in Stories and a shopping channel in the Explore tab. This followed the introduction of shoppable adverts for the first time in March.

Also in September, it was revealed that Instagram was working on a standalone shopping platform, aiming to capitalise on the 25 million business accounts currently active within the app.
