Amazon Prime Day set for October after delay

Amazon has confirmed that its annual Prime Day discounting event will take place from October 13-14.

The two-day shopping event, which has run every year since 2015, was delayed this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It is normally held in July but the e-commerce giant was forced to postpone it to focus on a surge in online orders as customers moved to non-physical retail during the pandemic.

Prime Day offers sales and discounts on items for customers of Amazon’s Prime subscription services. The company is promising more than one million deals across toys, electronics, fashion, beauty, kitchen, home and Amazon devices.

Prime Day will run for Prime members in the US, UK, UAE, Spain, Singapore, Netherlands, Mexico, Luxembourg, Japan, Italy, Germany, France, China, Canada, Belgium, Austria, Australia, and – participating for the first time this year – Turkey and Brazil.

To support smaller online businesses, Amazon is offering Prime members a $10 credit to use on Prime Day when members spend $10 on items sold by select small businesses in Amazon’s store.

It will also be spending $100m on promotional activities to boost small businesses in the run-up to the two-day event.

Jeff Wilke, Amazon CEO of worldwide consumer said: “In the midst of an unprecedented year, we’re committed to making this the most successful Prime Day ever for our small businesses and excited for Prime members worldwide to discover new ways to support local entrepreneurs and save big on everything they need and love.”

He added: “This year’s Prime Day is the perfect opportunity for Prime members to get their holiday shopping done early from the comfort of their homes – and to have more time to spend with their families and friends throughout the season.”
