Prime Day tops Black Friday & Cyber Monday

Amazon Prime Day surpassed both Black Friday and Cyber Monday, making it the single biggest day of sales in the online retail giant’s history.
The third annual Prime Day offered a host of online deals which were available to Prime customers for a total of 30 hours and across 13 countries. The event kicked off at 6pm (BST) on Monday 10 July and finished at midnight on Tuesday 11.
Prime members’ most popular purchase during the period was the Amazon Echo Dot. The e-retailer has not however released total figures for the event.
However, the event grew by more than 60 per cent on last year – while sales growth by small businesses and entrepreneurs was even higher, Amazon confirmed. More new members joined Prime on July 11 than on any single day in Amazon history.
Greg Greeley, vice president of Amazon Prime, said: “To those customers who tried Prime for the first time and our long time members, thank you for a great Prime Day. Our teams around the world will keep working to add more and more to your membership, so Prime continues to make your life better every day. We are already looking forward to our Prime Day celebration next year.”
