Customers ‘researching products on Amazon’

Seven in 10 people now visit Amazon when they want to research products online before making a purchase and a of Amazon users admit to checking information and prices on the site when they are in a physical store, according to a new survey.

The research, commissioned by marketing technology firm Kenshoo, found that 85 per cent of respondents visit Google to research purchases, followed by Amazon (72 per cent), with eBay third (38 per cent) and individual retailer websites (36 per cent).

Over half (56 per cent) of Amazon stated that it is the first site they visit for researching purchases. Even if they find something that seems suitable on another site, 51 per cent revealed they will usually check Amazon to find alternative ideas, compare prices or gather more information before making a purchase.

In the study the six most popular areas for product research on amazon were electronics and computers (73 per cent), books (58 per cent), music, movies and games (56 per cent), home appliances (55 per cent), fashion and clothing (49 per cent) and health and beauty (45 per cent).
