IronmongeryDirect plans to roll out new technology across its mobile and online stores in a bid to increase sales.

The UK’s largest multi-channel trade supplier of hardware, which launched a mobile site at the beginning of May, has appointed e-commerce technology provider Fredhopper to implement on-site search and merchandising tools across both channels.

The technology aims to enhance customer experience, helping people to find items faster, and in turn increase conversion rates.

“Our customer base consists of tradesmen and convenience is key. We now offer all channels to shop from, including website, mobile and catalogue, but previously the technology behind these channels was lacking practicality,” says Stuart Wilson, head of marketing at IronmongeryDirect. “Fredhopper’s tools will make our customers’ lives easier and as a result we’re expecting to see increased sales.”

The hardware retailer launched its mobile site to offer more accessibility for tradesmen while on the job.

“Fredhopper’s sophisticated on-site search and navigation functionality will allow shoppers to speed up the time they spend making purchases,” said Frank Lombos, Fredhopper VP of worldwide sales. “IronmongeryDirect is continually improving its multi-channel shopping journey to create a seamless experience for customers.”
