House of Fraser’s website due to return

House of Fraser’s website should come back online early next week, after the embattled department store reached a deal with warehouse operators XPO Logistics.

Shortly after the company went into administration last month, Sports Direct came in with a £90 million rescue deal, but then became responsible for various unpaid debts.

The website’s e-commerce functionality was suspended on 15 August, as House of Fraser was unable to fulfill online orders because XPO - owed £30.4 million - refused to process stock.

It is understood that a deal has been struck and online orders will resume, although XPO’s warehouse in Milton Keynes will only deliver goods to House of Fraser until November, when it is due close, leaving 300 staff redundant. The Wellingborough warehouse will trade until at least March, but it is thought operations will soon be transferred to Sports Direct’s Shirebrook location.

Sports Direct has reportedly offered loans to suppliers which have been left unpaid by the retailer’s collapse.

This follows news earlier this week that Edinburgh Woollen Mill Group, which runs concessions Calvetron Brands, Jane Norman, Berwin & Berwin and Jaeger in House of Fraser, has pulled all of its stock from the department store.

“Our brands have a long history with House of Fraser, and we worked hard to try to secure a satisfactory arrangement,” a spokesperson said. “But sadly we have not been able to agree future trading terms that give us confidence in the security and continuity of the House of Fraser business.”
