HMV targets customers on social media

Written by Chris Lemmon

Entertainment retailer HMV has appointed R.O.EYE as its digital marketing agency to help reach “niche audiences” online.

The marketing firm is helping HMV target online fan communities, for franchises such as Harry Potter and Star Wars, to promote HMV-exclusive products. R.O.EYE will also aim to reach followers through Twitter and Facebook with news of product launches and retargeted adverts.

Steve Partridge, head of e-commerce at HMV, said: “R.O.EYE is helping HMV reach niche online communities to drive DVD sales. We are using a lot of social channels to educate appropriate audiences about new, exclusive and relevant releases.”

Mark Kuhillow, founder of R.O.EYE, added: “Agencies usually rely on retailers to reformat their data for use with social media channels, but the technology we have developed takes that barrier away – improving efficiency and helping them see sales uplifts far sooner.”
