DPD app reaches one million download mark

Just eight months after launch, delivery firm DPD’s mobile app has surpassed the one million user download mark.

Johan Ortiz from Sheffield was the one millionth customer to download the YourDPD app and was presented with £250 worth of vouchers by Andy Markham, general manager of DPD Sheffield, to mark the occasion.

The app was launched in May last year, enabling customers to take complete control over their parcel deliveries. Users can create their own profile, set their delivery preferences and track ordered items. The app even allows customers to request that drivers always avoid certain times of the day, such as the school run.

Thanks to smartphone geo-location based technology the app can also automatically alert the DPD driver when an app user returns home. So if a parcel couldn't be successfully delivered earlier in the day, the driver can now make another delivery before they finish their round. The app user is sent a notification to advise that the driver is returning with their parcel.

Dwain McDonald, CEO of DPD, said: “It's a fantastic achievement to reach one million downloads in such a short space of time, and it's great to see Johan enjoying the benefits of our app, which in turn, helps us give him the best possible delivery experience.

“It is amazing to see how quickly customers have embraced the app and learned how to tailor the features to their own lifestyle. It takes personalisation to a whole new level and it is clear from the response we've had so far that customers want more of this kind of tech-based personalisation.”
