Cambridge, Gloucester and Brighton are the geekiest cities in the UK, according to a recent survey carried out by Ebuyer. These are closely followed by London and Bristol, whilst Bradford, Belfast and Preston remain the least ‘geeky’.

Ebuyer’s Geek City study was calculated by awarding each city a Geek Score. This score is determined by the percentage of workers aged 16-64 with a certified qualification; how many technological job opportunities are on offer within the city; and which city holds the most people with high technological purchasing habits.

The study shows that southern cities are bagging the top spots, leaving northern technology enthusiasts behind. Cambridge claims top spot with a Geek Score of 24, whereas London comes in fourth, with a Geek Score of 17.7; Oxford only makes eigth position, and Bradford ranks bottom with -12.1. The geek score shows that those living in Cambridge are more likely to purchase computers, gadgets and electrical products more than any other UK city.

Dave Wood, Commercial Director for Ebuyer.com commented about the findings: “In the past the term geek held negative connotations, however, this is the digital age where geeks simply rule. We would certainly like to see a few more geeks up North though!”
