| Torex Retail has received a major boost as it looks to put a scandal-ridden 2007 firmly behind it. The company, which last year faced a series of investigations into its conduct and accounting policies, has announced a new licensing arrangement with McDonald’s regarding its NewPOS-POS software

It’s part of a recovery that has included an acquisition by private equity outfit Cerberus, which went on to sell a third of the company to General Atlantic, and the installation of a new management team. McDonald’s, a long standing Torex customer, says that it selected the New-POS POS software due to its many successful implementations worldwide within its restaurants and because the solution has the best fit for its future plans.
“Our relationship with McDonald’s is an example of the strategic approach Torex has to delivering end-to-end solutions to our global customers. We are committed to working with our customers to ensure that our solutions are tailored to their business requirements in order to achieve maximum benefit,” says Mike Greenough, chairman and CEO at Torex. NewPOS-POS improves operational results including increased counter and drive through speed of service, improved order accuracy and streamlined kitchen production. The software is designed for large-scale restaurant organisations and provides extensive customisation and support models so this can be tailored to meet unique operational needs. It also includes enterprise management tools to help clients streamline deployment, support and software distribution and deliver lower overall cost of ownership.
Elsewhere, Torex has been selected by Martin McColl, the UK’s largest independent convenience and newsagent store operator, to deploy a company-wide PoS infrastructure across their estate of over 1,300 stores in the UK. As part of the £19 million deal, the solution will also incorporate full back office functionality, with integrated digital CCTV and an electronic catalogue system to enable access to a wider range of store merchandise. Torex will in addition provide hardware and software support services for the next eight years.
