Claire Robertson, the former manager of the Dorset branch, gained the financial backing of a consortium, led by the Ireland-based owner of the premises, to reopen the store. The store has pick 'n' mix but has abandoned CDs, DVDs and children's clothing. Instead it has new lines such as a craft and pet section with a stronger focus on products by local firms, including one which makes wooden toys. "Dorchester was always a profitable store. The sales were always good even though Woolworths as a company wasn't profitable. It is a prime location and really left a hole in the High Street. Plus there isn't a lot of competition for a general retailer here," says Robertson.
Retail consultant, Gerard O'Connor, who recommended Futura’s retail software and stock control solution, comments: “Wellworths chose Futura for its Dorchester store because the solution was competitively priced and because I had confidence in the people that I was talking to as they have such a clear understanding of the Futura system. They were able to load the item records electronically and I believed that they could get the system setup in the short timescale that we had to open.”
